A community for people who like electric cars
The Watt Garage is a place for owners, the curious and the not-yet-convinced to compare notes — online all week, and in a car park once a month.
How this started
It started as a handful of people arguing about charging cables in a group chat, which is how most good things in this hobby start. Somebody suggested meeting up to settle it in person. About twenty cars turned up, nothing was settled, and everybody wanted to do it again.
Several years on, the shape is the same. Members write up what they have learned — a road trip, a long-term review, a guide to something that confused them last year — and the rest of us read it, argue politely, and are better informed for it. The interest groups are where the detailed conversations live, and the meetups are where the friendships do.
We are not a dealership, a manufacturer or a lobby group, and nobody here is paid by one. That is worth saying out loud, because it is the reason a review here can say a car is not for you.
How we do things
Three rules we actually keep
Family friendly, always
Bring the kids to a meetup. Keep it kind in the comments. There is no version of this hobby that is improved by being unpleasant to somebody.
Enthusiastic, not credulous
We like these cars. That does not make them perfect, and a review that cannot name a downside is not a review.
No stupid questions
Everybody here was new once. If somebody asks what a kilowatt is, they get an answer, not a link to the search results.
